Fairfax and Sammons Residence
The Fairfax and Sammons Residence is literally around the corner from our new apartment. I'd often walked past and wondered who lived there -- it looked so out of place on the block, surrounded by bars. For Open House New York, the residents allowed the public inside to see the interior of the apartment. Composed of two carriage houses, the smaller carriage house was originally built as a stable, but was later converted to livable residence space. Both buildings feature a newly restored brick garden terrace, a quarter-sawn American white oak floor, and a redesigned skylight. A very, very cool apartment, right on West 4th Street in Manhattan, footsteps away from where countless celebrities have lived, including Bob Dylan. View the full set on Flickr.
