Wild Beasts
September 8, 2009 -- Wild Beasts perform for the first time in New York City at Joe's Pub.
Joe's Pub is cushier digs than indie rock fans are used to. Cocktail tables, chairs, lounge furniture, and waitress service. Wild Beasts seemed too big for the room, already, having never performed in NYC before. Dark, foreboding music, with beautifully orchestrated parts and impressively operatic voices. Very few rock musicians have pipes like these.
I love this shot of the band because you can get a sense of three of the four band members working in unison, and the seated crowd around them, being blown away by the room-filling sound.
