What Made Milwaukee Famous

One of my favorite discoveries of SXSW 2005 (thanks, Michaela) was What Made Milwaukee Famous and their dark-tinged, super-catchy pop. Since then, they've gained a devoted following in Austin and around the country after appearing with Spoon on television for PBS' Austin City Limits show.

I caught them during South by Stereogum, Stereogum's SXSW party held at the Parish. Although the crowd may have been distracted by the brisket sandwiches and free Fat Tire, the band did a commendable job and rocked out with both New Wave and power pop accordingly. Rumor has it that the boys have since signed to a pop-friendly label (*cough*Barsuk*cough). But whatever happens, I'm sure they'll make waves.
