Bloc Party
Silent Alarm has a very high chance of ending up on my best of the year list but I wasn't sure what to expect of their show after hearing that they'd cancelled their Philly show due to the state of Kele's voice. Here's more photographs from the first of two very, very sold-out nights at the Bowery Ballroom -- there was a long line of un-ticketed folks waiting to get in outside, even at 10pm.
Bloc Party were quite ecstatic to be playing in New York and did a high energy set to an enthusiastically dancing crowd, complete with audience participation, four "slow jams," and a few joke riffs thrown about, including some Killers, Interpol, and Franz Ferdinard. During the show, Kele asked the crowd who paid the most to get in; someone said he'd paid two hundred dollars, so Kele gave him a backstage pass lanyard. (I suppose they're a little more comfortable nowadays with their status as a buzz band, but still gracious and happy to be doing what they love.)
